I turned 25 last Wednesday and wrote this lullaby about growing up that is also about a nightmare I had on Thursday night

There's an old man in my room
He's got something in his mouth
He's dragging it around
and it smells of decay
He has no teeth to help him grip it

All my doors are locked
He must have come through a window

Whack him on the head
with a pair of slippers
Watch him reminisce about the old days
when slippers were softer
and did not have acrylic bottoms
such as these that rupture his scalp

Someday I, too, will be old
You may find me in your house
gumming at the leg of your baby
Do not be afraid
I will be much weaker than you
You can crush my brittle head
and fashion my vericose veins into a cock ring

You can build a man out of lumber
but he will rot in a couple weeks
You can build a man out of legos
but children will dismantle him to make a space ship
You can build a man out of flesh
but you must not let the guts fall out
